What kind of MP3 player support does Windows Vista have? I've got a Rio S35S. Thanks.

MP3 Player support in Vista
If it supports Play For Sure, it will be supported under Windows Media Player 11. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

Then it appears that I'm in trouble because there were only a few Rio's that
would, and they were their latest players. And now that I think Rio is no longer in the business anymore, I don't know if I would even find much support via Rio's website. I believe iTunes (although I rarely use it as of now) will support it with a downloaded driver though. Would this work, or would it have to support Plays for Sure to even work with Vista at all? Would it be possible to use the Rio Music Manager in Vista? I believe my MP3 player is supported in WMP10, but I guess things will change in WMP11. The MP3 player isn't even two years old yet. I currently use Rio Music Manager 2.9 to do all my transferring and so on. At that point, (when I plug in my MP3 player) I also get an MP3 player icon in my taskbar in Windows XP.
If it works with Windows Media Player 10, you shouldn't experience any issues, but the only way to find out is to try. I don't know about support for iTunes since its geared towards integration primarily with the iPod. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

But if it does work with iTunes, then you should have no problem in Vista. I use iTunes with my iPod with no problems at all :)

Yeh - normally most Mass USB devices (which MP3 players are) are recognised, and in that bit in the Control Panel "Portable Media Devices" - I've got a regular USB stick that's got a audio-out on it so you can hook it up to speakers and that works great.

But does Apple allow third party players to work with iTunes? They are a very proprietary company, especially when it comes to the iPod, example, AAC format. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm ""Scøtt Lovegrove [ScottIsAFool]"" wrote in message

Haven't a clue to be honest. I personally wouldn't have thought it would, but if Travis has found a plugin, then maybe you can....

Apple doesn't, but there are some hacks out there that allow this. AAC is not proprietary--only those that are bought from the iTunes music store which have Fairplay DRM attached to them.
Apple isn't proprietary, unless you call Microsoft Windows a standard--I don't. Let's not confuse industry standards with mass market least common denominator usage statistics.
iTunes uses many, many formats of files, and will even import .wma files. It uses .mp3 and .aac, for example, both industry standard formats.
